Jack-N-Grill
2524 Federal Blvd
In Attendance: Ang., Carol, Caroline, Jen, Katie, Lara, Marie and Rhonda
(all in!)
We had ourselves a good ol' fashioned fiesta on Thursday at the Jack-N-Grill!
In one of those rare occasions everyone agreed that somehow we could all get to the restaurant early!!!
Excellent...more margaritas all around! And delicious margarita's they were. We just had the house specialty and they were good...an excellent recipe, not too sweet, not too sour and soaked through with tequila. I don't know if it was a mistake or not but my first round was served with a lemon wedge which really put a nice touch on the marg (my second glass came with a lime so who knows...)
Jack-N-Grill was Katie's pick and in perfect Mexican restaurant tradition their menu is large and extensive so it made choosing a tad difficult. Katie was almost bound to pick the same thing she always gets when she goes there but with enough goading she picked something different.
A treat!
I ordered the Stuffed Sopapilla Smothered and Deluxed...and it was awesome. In fact, that's how it made me feel before I even got through with half of it...stuffed!! But it was sooo good and just as yummy the next day for lunch!
I'm gonna have to let the other gals discuss their food cause, quite frankly...I was too busy with my own to be bothered by what was on their plates!
Now...a note...Jack-N-Grill is no in-and-out Mexican restaurant. It says so right on their menu...all their food is prepared to order...which in layman's terms you might have a bit of a wait. But worth every minute you get to spend enjoying another of their margaritas.
A la carte...few words of just-so-you-know:
It was raining the night we went and I was bummed because of the cute little covered patio in front of the restaurant, but after thinking about it a little bit, I would not want to sit and eat on their patio...it is about 10 feet total from Federal Blvd...I imagine it is very loud and dirty out there.
but the inside of the restaurant is very cute and festive, if just a tad small and crowded (cozy???) but the wait staff is friendly and warm.
Now...my opinion (everyone's got one right?) it takes a lot to screw up mexican food...it's pretty basic stuff, beans, chiles, cheese...how hard is that??? But I really liked Jack-N-Grill and would go again for sure.
I mean, c'mon...you gotta love a place that has Frito Pie on the menu, right???

Oh Frito Pie! How I love thee'!
Let's see....what did I eat? It had cheese, tortilla, green chili....but I can't quite remember what it was? Maybe a chimichanga? It was yummy! I do remember that.
Part of my memory loss is the margs. I had a few. They were good.
It was nice to have everyone there. It is a loud place, so we fit right in. Jack-N-Grill is a good ole' fashion yummy Mexican joint!
I got to dinner late on this chilly, rainy, Thursday, so I didn't get the full-on Jack & Grill experience. When I arrived, the place was jam-packed. It took awhile to get the server to take my (late) order and it took even longer to get it to the table. By the time it landed in front of me, I had pretty much eaten my arm as I had spent my afternoon on an airplane... with no food... in anticipation of dinner with the girls. Because I slurped down bottom of the margarita pitcher and then munched on chips & salsa... I was only able to eat a few bites of my GIANT vegetarian burrito. But it was good. It was worth the wait and I had to take most of it home and probably got two more meals out of it the following day.
I guess I'll have to eat at Jack & Grill again to really get a feel for the space, service and menu. But based on what I saw in the short while I was there, if you happen to be in the area and you happen to be hungry -- Jack & Grill would be a great place to try. Let us know what you think!
My opinion of Jack N Grill is simple. Their green chili is now my favorite. In fact, I start drooling just thinking about it. Mmmmm green chili and melty cheese. It is not for whimps because it is spicy. I didn't think it was fire hot and it was nothing my marg couldn’t cool off. The margs are extra yummy by the way!
I had a combo platter with a bunch different stuff. It had a chicken taco, enchilada, chili relleno, and did I mention green chili? This was probably one of my favorite picks!
I would recommend Jack N Grill to anyone visiting Denver wanting a fantastic and non-chain Mexican place!
I hobbled in on my crutches (I broke my leg the week before) a little late and was greeted by our super nice waitress who could see I was in dire need of a margarita. She brought it to me even before I could sit down. Ah....that was nice, and it was tasty!!! I enjoyed the chips and salsa and ate way too many of them. Yummy salsa.

I orderded a chicken burrito smothered in half green chili and half red chili. I was warned that the green chili was pretty hot, so I thought I'd try both. I believe it was called a "Christmas Tree" smother. The green chili was some of the best I have ever tasted, and I did not think it was too hot. Truthfully, I didn't care for the red chili at all. I ate the green chili half and took the red chili half home for my daughter...she didn't care for the red chili either. However, she did say that it was still one of the best burritos she's ever had (she's 16) and gobbled it up in no time. We especially loved all the large, tender chunks of chicken.
I would like to go back to Jack & Grill on a non-rainy day to check out the patio and eat lots and lots of green chili.
